John Carrillo has more than 40 years of experience in facility management and corporate real estate at technology-related companies. John just retired as Director, Planning, Design and Construction, West Region for AT&T. Responsibilities included planning/project management oversight of 40M square feet for the 13 western U.S. states and Guam. His team included facility/project managers, alliance architectural and engineering firms, general contractors and technical consultants, who managed several thousand capital and expense infrastructure replacement and repair projects totaling up to US$250M per year. As Director of Property Management for AT&T John developed a preventive maintenance program for 20,000 buildings.
Before AT&T, Carrillo worked as Director, Corporate Real Estate – Aircraft Division at Northrop Grumman. Over the course of his career, he has managed as many as 1,500 FM employees, developed strategic programs, built a missile factory, decommissioned a nuclear reactor and managed large seismic retrofit projects in the San Francisco Bay Area.
A frequent presenter at IFMA events, Carrillo has also prepared and presented coursework on FM/Real estate and ISO 9001 quality processes, John is currently doing virtual presentations on digitization technology in the workplace and Post Pandemic FM trends in the industry. Mr. Carrillo is currently Immediate Past Chair of IFMA Global Board and is Chair of Global FM for 2021-2022.
Carrillo earned a Bachelor of Science degree in architecture from California State Polytechnical University in 1975. In 1986, he earned an Advanced Management Certificate from Claremont University Graduate School and in 1996 he was awarded his ISO 9001 Registrar Team Certification. He earned his IFMA Fellowship award in 2006. His significant contributions to the FM industry have been recognized by IFMA and other organizations, such as the Association for Facilities Engineering (AFE), and the Western Construction Consumer Council (WCCC).
